My Inquiry Journey to Date Section:
When I first started thinking about formulating my inquiry question, I was interested in community building and creating a safe, nurturing classroom environment. I came to the conclusion that this was a loaded question and needed to narrow down what I wanted to further explore. During my first semester at UBC, I took an English Language Learner course which taught me different teaching strategies and ways of adapting my lessons, a Social Justice & Policy course that acknowledged First People’s Principles of Learning and a Human Development course that acknowledged social-emotional learning and recognizing the needs of diverse learners. A common theme arose between these courses, the importance of inclusivity, equality and diversity. Therefore, I want to explore how I can adopt a culturally responsive pedagogy and developing teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students during my long practicum.
